Is the real estate tax amendment facing rough waters ahead? Will Florida consumer confidence improve?
REAL ESTATE TAX AMENDMENT - It’s steady as she goes in the fight for a real estate tax amendment on the January ballot – but there could be rough waters ahead. While supporters remain confident that the ballot language clearly explains the amendment’s intent, an appeal court loss could delay real estate tax reform in the absence of action by the Florida Legislature.
FLORIDA CONSUMER CONFIDENCE - Florida’s consumer confidence inched up one point to 79 in September, according to the latest survey from University of Florida economists, though higher gas prices and the housing sector could impact future confidence. “In the short run, we expect things to get a bit worse before they improve,” says Chris McCarty, director of the Survey Research Center at University of Florida.
