HURRICANE MITIGATION - The My Safe Florida Home program plans to hit the road and host fairs in three Florida cities to promote the state’s free hurricane home inspections and the fact that it provides funding to some homeowners to help pay for upgrades. MORE MORTGAGE INDUSTRY LAYOFFS - Countrywide Financial Corp. will cut as many as 12,000 jobs – up to 20 percent of its work force – under expectations that new mortgages will fall about 25 percent in 2008 from this year’s levels, the company said Friday. Meanwhile, IndyMac Bancorp Inc. said that it plans to eliminate as many as 1,000 jobs.
