Looks real official doesn’t it? Well, it is not real nor official. On closer examination of the e-mail, if one places there cursor over the "click here" hyperlink on the actual e-mail (the hyperlink has been removed) you see the link leads to a domain located in Russia. Frankly, the IRS does not have a branch office in Russia or a process center.
Another e-mail with the message shows a domain registered in the country of Malaysia - again no IRS offices!.
Everyone gets spam e-mail and it looks very official but with a little effort you can easily determine if it is legitimate or not. As stated above, if you hover or cursor over any hyperlink and look in the lower left corner of your browser window, you will see the link to where you will be directed when you click on any hyperlink. This provides you with the ability to see if you will be taken to a true or official site. If in doubt, pick up a phone and call the company or organization to determine if the e-mail is legitimate or not. DON’T CALL ANY NUMBER FOUND WITHIN THE E-MAIL. CALL A NUMBER YOU HAVE FOR THE COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION.
Hopefully this will help some individuals from being scammed and having their identity stolen, confidential information obtained or phished, or loss of their hard earned savings.
